A bit about the process of creating a wonderful portrait painting or drawing. It starts with a photograph.

For the above painting I personally took a series of photographs of my wife in different poses and lighting and chose the one that I felt was the best photo to work from.
I usually always work from a photo that my client provides for me and I build from there to create the finished piece.
On occassion I have taken the photo's myself but usually they will hire a professional photographer to take the photo's or it may be one that the client has taken themselves. Most of the time my client will send me a series of different photo's and I go through them and pick out the one that I think has the best composition. There is almost always that one good photo that will make a beautiful portrait painting or drawing.
The painting on the "right" was painted from a photo that the client had taken themselves while on vacation. I took that photo and built upon it with my own "artistic" style creating a unique "T.S. Carson Portrait Painting!! So there is ALWAYS something to create a painting or drawing from.
